Week 55 - Fires and conference.

Down here in Chile there are some crazy people running around starting fires. Everybody knows the fires are started by arsonists. The fires are not near me right now so we don't see much.  The wards [congregations] are gathering items for the people who have lost their homes.  The government hasn't been able to do much to stop the arsonists.  The poor firemen are usually unpaid. They do it to give service to their communities and neighbors.

We had zone conference.  It was pretty fun. There were some great talks. I had the last interview with the mission president.  He gave me more freedom to determine the music I listen to.  As long as I can feel the spirit, the music is uplifting, and wholesome,  I can listen to it.  I'm going to download some Alex Boye songs that have gospel themes.

We had two of our investigators come to church!  Both are new guys we are teaching.  One is named "E". and has a baptismal date. We also had someone named "S" who came to church.  I think he is pretty cool and will probably choose to be baptized.

Well that's pretty much my week!

Week 54 - Feeling better

This week I felt better.  I ended up throwing up all last week.  I had headaches and a fever. It didn't help that it has become really humid here lately but I finally feel back to normal!

The weather has been really bad.  They are having problems with wildfires all over Chile.  Other countries from Mexico on down are coming to help.  They are trying to stop many fires by controlled burns but often it just creates more fires.

We had a baptism this last week!!!  All sorts of problems occurred before, during, and after the baptism.  The font wouldn't fill, we wanted to show a video but couldn't find the monitor, etc.   I found it stressful, but in the end all is well!

Our sector requires a lot of contacting to find people to teach.  The area is relatively well off.  We do a lot of contacting and walking each day.

Apparently there's going to be a lot of changes in our mission starting Wednesday.  There is supposed to be a schedule change.  My p-day may change.  We'll see...  Wednesday, we will also be part of a world-wide conference.  It will be fun to see what exciting new things come from it.

Elder Palilla and I get along great. I like to think I'm pretty easy to get along with but we are going to have problems if we aren't split up during the next transfer cycle.  Our favorite teams are playing each other in the super bowl!

Week 53 - A bad completo

So to be honest, I can't remember much that happened before Monday.   Everything just seems foggy in my memory and so long ago.  The reason I didn't write Monday is because I got home Sunday and didn't feel well.  My head hurt and I didn't feel normal.  Not feeling well I got into bed to sleep it off...

I fell asleep for a hour or two and then woke up around midnight.  I just felt worse and started to roll around around a bit.  I went into the bathroom and threw up everything I had in me.  That continued all night until about 9:00 in the morning when I threw up for the seventh time.  The zone leaders called Hermana Diaz, the mission president's wife.  She had other commitments Monday and thought I must have eaten a bad completo, or hotdog.  I just stayed in bed all day.  Slowly I began to feel better.

Eventually I got up and thought I should probably eat something.  Hermana Diaz told me I should eat cooked things like rice or pasta.  In my head the next thing similar food item that I had was dry toast. I ate two pieces of dry toast but that didn't settle very well.  So, I got up, went to the bathroom and threw up everything that I managed to put down.

The zone leaders called Hermana Diaz again Tuesday.  She decided she needed to check on me to see how I was doing...

We looked forward to Hermana Diaz arrival and the other elders went about their normal morning activities. Then they receive a phone call from the mission president and realized that he was the one driving her over.  They went crazy worrying about the state of the apartment and cleaned everything. Both arrived at around 11:00, checked on me, and gave me some medicine before leaving.   I started to feel a little better, but still didn't feel well Tuesday. We tried to do somethings but I couldn't during the day.

That evening we had planned to move to our new apartment.  I figured we already had stuff set up for the move and I didn't want to mess things up.  It probably wasn't the best decision, but I did the best I could anyway and helped move.   So now I'm in my new house!

Week 52 - Teaching!

This week was pretty interesting.

We had two people come to church. One named "A" who will probably be baptized this Sunday. She's the mother of a recent convert and wants to be baptized too.  The ward or congregation here is great!  Everyone is super energetic.  It is great for the missionary work.  it's awesome.

We Also had someone named "G" come to church.  He attended the Gospel Principles Sunday School class.  At the end he bore his testimony.  He told everyone he could feel the Spirit during class.  He testified that the church was true!!!  He told us we could stop by whenever we want!

We also found a man named "M."  He wants to be baptized too!

We're teaching an American from Alaska named "F".

We found a house in our sector so we won't have to walk 15 minutes to get into our area.

Today we will probably play soccer for our p-day.

Fires in the area.
